Calling all patriots! Join us on Main Street, Sunday, May 25th waving your American flags and wearing your red, white and blue for the 6th annual community celebration of our fallen heroes. The event will begin at 5pm and the celebration will continue through 9pm. Come out to remember our fallen heroes. There are so many ways you can participate. Be a spectator, join our committee, volunteer for parade security, or march in the parade. Children can register their bikes; scooters, skate boards and wagons for the Decorated Bike Contest and all who enter will be part of the parade procession as a group. We will have trophies for cutest, most patriotic and most creative decorating. Groups, clubs and organizations, register now, show your support and enter a float, marching band or creative marching group. Residents and neighborhoods can decorate a golf cart; we will have a Trophy for best float. Each year our parade grows in size with new organizations joining the procession. We are thrilled to announce our 2014 parade Grand Marshal, Lakewood Ranch entreprenier, resident and parade founder, John Breiner. If you are a Veteran, look for our VIP Veteran Viewing Area, to enjoy the parade from. Seats will be provided for you, across from the Main Street Bazaar. After the parade stick around and enjoy the music, food and refreshments.
Manasota Operation Troops Support (MOTS) is our charity for the event. We need your help to fill the truck with much needed toiletry and non-perishable food items. These simple but much needed items will be placed in care packages and sent overseas to our active military. Letters will be placed in each packet to create a personal message of thanks, a note of appreciation, and a meaningful token, that our heroes are in our thoughts and admired for their sacrifice for freedom. These letters are shared and treasured by our troops, a small and much appreciated reminder of home. So please take time to make a donation and write a note of appreciation to our troops.
Children interested in participating in the decorated bike contest, can register by clicking now. They will be judged in the Region Bank Parking lot between 5:00 and 5:30pm. If your child arrives after 5:30pm they will not be considered for a trophy, however are welcomed to still join the children as one group in the parade procession. Parents or group leaders are responsible for their children at all times, including the staging area, in the parade procession, and at the conclusion of the parade. A parent, guardian or group leader MUST be present at the event at all times. No child may be “dropped off” or left unaccompanied at any time.
